Northwood produced their best performance of the season against a Reading Town side who are currently second in the league table, but went down to a solitary goal defeat.

Woods' cause wasn't helped by the unavailability of a number of players. The pitch played a significant part in the game, as this turn into a battle of the midfield and defensive areas with Woods standing firm in their quest for the opening goal. However, possession was pretty much even in the first half as both defences came out on top with neither goalkeeper really threatened.

The second half was again very much like the first in terms of possession, with the Woods still playing the more attacking football. The first real goal threat came from Woods in the 80th minute with substitute Ricky Samani played through on the right. His shot was pushed out by the Reading goalkeeper onto the head of Olly Wright, six yards out and in front of goal, but he somehow managed to put his header the wrong side of the post.

In the 89th minute the referee awarded a free kick to Reading centrally on the edge of the penalty area, deeming the ball had struck a Woods defender on the arm, when clearly it was ball to hand. From the resulting free kick the ball was deflected out by Ross Thompson, but fell to the Reading forward who was unmarked and he made no mistake.

The Woods team can be applauded for their spirited performance, attitude and commitment, which should see improved results forthcoming.
